Description
This is a portrait of my Morgan gelding, Indy. I've been playing around with natural media brushes in Corel Painter with my Wacom Cintiq 16 a bunch lately as I wanted to get back to a more organic style of drawing and take a break from the whole 3-d world—and I think in part too to "push back" against the over-slickness of AI generated images (I am sorry- I can't call them art... that opinion may make me not very popular here but it's the way I feel...). So in this case in Painter (v. 2019 fwiw), I used mainly pencils, colored pencils and soft chalk on textured paper. Here I was exploring a looser, freer style. I did this in a few hours instead of my usual weeks or months I take to do a digital artwork or illustration, 3d or not. I hope you enjoy!

What a magnificent portrait! I keep promising to get started with Painter, but I find it fiercely intimidating. Stocked to the top with options! What to choose? How to start at the beginning? Where is the beginning?
Your talent and expertise are an inspiration.
Thanks so much! Do you like to paint or draw conventionally? Do you ever draw or paint in Photoshop? Think of Painter as a digital way to do conventional drawing that mimics natural media tools. Yeah like Photoshop there is a lot to learn but the pdf manual is very good. (And LOL yeah I am just barely touching on all it can do/I have a lot ot learn too! Same is still true of Photoshop as well for me!) I used to do a lot of colored pencil on canson paper drawing back in the day (here is an example here in my gallery: https://www.renderosity.com/gallery/items/1294534/blue) so that is where i started., Definitely need a good pressure sensitive drawing tablet.
This is gorgeous work!
Thanks so much!!
Excellent work!!!
Thanks so much!!!
Very well done
Thanks so much!!
nice work!
Thanks so much Ken! I know you use Painter a lot! What drawing tablet do you use with it?
Awesome.
Thanks!!
Outstanding artwork & fantastic horse!
I am impressed by both!
Thanks so much Flint!!
Gorgeous horse!!! When I was a kid, I wanted a horse so badly, I learned to draw them fairly well. But when i finally got one, lol, I lost interest in drawing them because I was too busy riding!!
Thanks so much! LOL I did have a stretch early on in my riding days that I didn't draw at all except for work related illustrations - I ran my own design/illus studio for over 40 years:) So yeah I know what you mean! Was only about 20 years ago I got the art bug again!
