Description
At least that's what it is in my forthcoming story. Set in an alternative universe and also in the future, this is a typical family flyer for the well-off family in the year 2265 or later. It's the Sindusan Aerospace SC-402. Production began in the year 2265, and ran for many years without much modification. The flyer was a lower cost and lower performance alternative to the SC-400, and was just as successful as that model. It still provided global range (plus return) on a single charge, but was slower and had a little less luggage space than the SC-400. It was cheaper to run and that included servicing costs, so it was still very popular and just as with the SC-400 Sindusan Aerospace had to build new factories on some worlds to meet demand.
This shows the model nearly finished, with only the internal lighting yet to be modelled. No rigging has been done yet though I will rig it. I made a mistake fairly early in the modelling process and did not detect it until this week, so this model won't, as originally planned, be for part of the for-sale set because it fails the quality check. I did not make the main body with enough polygons and so from some angles faceting can be seen, which is not good enough for models for sale. It would be almost as much work putting that right as it would to make a new model from scratch, so the new model is a better idea. I'll keep this one for my own use and keep it in the background or restrict viewing angles so the facets don't show up. Ugh! Lesson learned, the next one will be better. I am going to finish this one as practice modelling and rigging is never harmful. The second image is a UV mapping check, by the way.
The next stage is where I do loads of work and the model doesn't look any different afterwards — rigging of course! In Blender this isn't too difficult for hard-surface models like this, so I don't dread it too much. After that it just needs a few different textures and then it will be done.
The plan is to make a set of these flyers, rigged in Blender, and then sell them as a set on the Blender store on SuperHive. Probably eight of them in one set. Some of the flyers will be very adaptable with many body and upholstery colours, different interiors etc. One will have ambulance, police and delivery vehicle interiors, for example, and at least one will have an option for a mobile home/camper type interior.

Does Blender not have a smoothing option to remove facets? It is a feature I use sometimes in Bryce.
Excuse my ignorance on this matter - I've never mastered Blender.
Excellent looking vehicle by the way. :-)
Blender does support subdivision surfaces, but applying a subdivision modifier to this ruins some parts of it so they no longer fit together properly. If I had designed it to be further subdivided then my mistake wouldn't matter, but it's a huge amount of work to put this right. Next time...
