THE WISE WARRIOR ================== She was wise but also a warrior. She was the Goddess that people turned to when they need help in battle/ war. For she was the Counsel of War when they hoped for Victory. She won against Poseidon to be a Patron goddess of a city state. He offered there a horse and showed how to tame and use it, which till this time they never seen before, She offered them an Olive tree, and showed them how to grow it, turn the trunk into wood, use the fruit as food or press the fruit to make oil. The people of this city state chose her, and renamed it in her honour, even going as far to build a huge temple atop high rocky hilltop. She helped heroes - like Jason and his Argonauts, & Perseus. She can be kind but like other gods & goddesses , she had her bad side also. Such as the time the woman Arachne, who was famous for her skill at weaving tapestries, boast she could make a tapestry better than the deity and called out a challenge into the art - for the goddess to come and compete a weaving contest.. The Goddess was already there in disguise and revealed herself and accepted the challenge. The goddess made a tapestry showing the Gods helping man, giving them gifts, supporting them.. Arachne did 1 showing the gods in bad light, their failings, abuses of power and won the challenge, her joy of winning would not last long; as in a fit of rage - The Goddess turned Arachne into a spider, to be weaving forever more.. Another legend of this deity, mentioned she took in, a son of Hephaestus, the god of Black-Smiths and Metalworking, and had him hidden in a chest and gave it to the daughters of the king of city state she was patron of, but forbid them to open and look inside but curiosity got the better them and they did and what they saw caused them go mad, for they saw the child was half-human and half-snake , and the shock of this cause them to throw themselves off a cliff to their deaths.. Ironically the child in that chest later became the king of that city-state and was taught things by his adopted mother goddess & so help developed the city-state into a more powerful 1. This King's name was.. : Erichthonius And his adoptive mother & a goddess, this deity , the Counsel of War was , you ask ?? She was no other than Athena, Patron Goddess of Athens.. The Temple on the high hill ?? - The Greek Parthenon on The Acropolis in Athens.
