Tea going cold. Counter sticky with something she'd stopped noticing. The market loud enough to disappear into if you knew how to stand still.
He was across the street. Kurotsura. The makeup mask — worn like it was nothing. Like it wasn't a declaration. Eyes that moved without his head moving — the giveaway, if you were patient enough to wait for it.
She was patient enough.
Gaff used to say the city fixes itself if you watch long enough. What he meant was: patterns surface. You don't find them.
