Description
I recently heard on one of my CDs the old sea chantey that starts off “What will we do with a drunken sailor?” One of the verses in reply to the question went “Put him in the bed with the captain’s daughter.” I couldn’t believe that the captain would allow this, until I discovered that the “captain’s daughter” was really a whip used to punish the drunken sailor.

Great.
Wonderful scene
Thanks! Glad y'all liked it.
Never knew that about captain's daughter either. Always thought they were just dropping the drunk guy into the captain's daughter's bed so he would get caught and in even more trouble.
Glad you liked the picture. It was gone when I checked this morning. I guess it's back. Your idea certainly sounds like it could also be right. Terms from years ago often have alternative explanations.
