Description
Lookout! This little critter on the breakfast table here has a nasty bite! Yet this particular species of spider is quite small and not common to most U.S. regions, still it's one to be wary of.
Averaging a mere 1/2 inch in legspan, the brown recluse, Loxosceles reclusa, once found commonly in Southern U.S. regions, has been recently discovered in Northern regions such as Indiana and Ilinois.
Its bite, although rarely felt, injects a venom that causes rapid deterioration of the affected area, the wound appearing like a small bruise that increases over time in size and depth at the site of the bite. Emergency medical attention and surgical treatment would be required for the proper removal of the affected area of the bite to prevent further spreading and quite possibly in severe cases, loss of limb.
I got as close to this one on the table top here, enough to get a couple snapshots before someone captured this spider and relocated it outside.

Danger! Danger! And you're not kidding! I know a guy who just spent three days in the hospital from a spider bite. I do not know what kind of spider though. And the guy is kind of sickly too. Cool work here, my friend!
Thanks, ZigZag. Yup, it is those really small spiders we really gotta be more wary of than many of the big ones.
