Description
The Lockheed F-80C was the first American jet aircraft to be mass produced and the first to exceed 500 mph in flight. A small number of early aircraft saw very limited evaluation duty in Europe at the end of WW2, but the P/F-80 saw extensive action as a fighter/bomber in the Korean Conflict, primarily against ground targets and surveillance.
It's interesting that the first credited jet to jet aircraft kill was that of a F-80 shot down by a Russian Mig-15 (which outclassed the F-80 in performance by a great deal). The US claimed a Mig-15 at a later date, but it wasn't confirmed.
So now, thanks to the improved aircraft technology gleaned from WW2, we were able to kill one another faster!

Excellent scene!
Thank you kindly!
Great render....
Thank you. I'm pleased that you enjoyed this piece!
The P-80 was out of date shortly after it came into service, though it was still useful as a ground attack aircraft. Being out of date soon after service introduction — even before it in some cases — was the fate of a lot of aircraft in that era though, so no shame on those that developed it. They worked hard and gave the US forces something new. Nice render of the historic fighter.
A well-composed scene. The formation flying past fits in well. Could be an advertising image from the 1950s.
The Shooting Star is said to have been a very good ground attack aircraft. However, it was overshadowed by the F-86 Sabre and the F-84 Thunderjet.
