According to art historian Daniel Arasse, who was particularly interested in the various Renaissance annunciations, the main problem for painters was to announce the mystery of the incarnation: as soon as the Virgin Mary replies "I am the servant of the Lord, so be it" to the archangel Gabriel, she is pregnant. The conceptual and technical discovery of these painters consisted in disturbing something in the arrangement of the perspective skillfully constructed in the painting, thus signifying the appearance of the inconceivable in the world of humans. Moreover, this still secret divine presence is also reinforced by the presence of a column that is sometimes inserted between Mary and the archangel, it is the symbolic image of Christ, because Christ is the column that unites earth and heaven again. If you look closely at my image, there is a tiny nail towards the center of the image, it takes the place of this tiny column and the nails of the cross. Finally, this young carpenter woman is a sort of synthesis between Joseph and Mary.
