Description
Fairey Swordfish on a dangerous trajectory. It takes a special kind of steel resolve to fly a torpedo bearing aircraft straight into the ferocious anti-aircraft barrage, while maintaining a low altitude and steady attitude till the 'fish" was released. At least the pilot was free to jink and weave to try to avoid an aimed hit from the target's artillery at that point. Still... (Models found on various sources and customized for the render.)

I like the action in this picture. One is always amazed at how this double-decker was able to hold its own.
Besides being for all purposes obsolete when it entered the war, the Swordfish performed amazingly. It was tough, maneuverable, could be flown in all weather and at night, had the ability to be fitted with radar, and could carry a decently dependable torpedo. Being as slow as it was presented some difficulties with anti-aircraft fire. The skill of the pilot would have been the defining factor in that instance...oh yeah, and a lot of luck! Thanks for stopping by. I always appreciate your comments and thoughts!
Brave men. mind you if I remember right they where quite slow
Really! It wasn't like "Just zip in and zoom out". Thanks for stopping by to leave your thoughts!
Yeah, probably their worst liability.
Damn fine render. The water is especially well done.
Thank you! Deep Ocean model by shredder with a number of tweaks to customize it for the piece.
Cool action scene !
Thank you kindly!
Great stuff
I'm pleased you enjoyed the piece. Thanks for leaving a comment!
Fantastic work on this scene with the Swordfish!
Thank you so much.
Well, if it could be fitted with radar why not go all out and fit it with ramjet engines and rocket boosters? ;-)
Cause they didn't have your imagination? ...and thanks for stopping by and leaving a couple of words. Always appreciated!!
Love the Fairey Swordfish. Killer of battleships. Remarkable aircraft considering its best work was in WWII when other more modern torpedo planes were in other navies.
Wow! Powerful and impressive image
Excellent realism and down on the deck drama. Though, the swordfish crews didnt fare so well when targets had a hornets nest of land-based air support. The Scharnhorst and Gneisnau's ballsy dash up the English Channel was a grim example of this. Still, the Fairey's bigger cousins in Bomber Command had an answer to that.
Is there a Swordfish model somewhere I have missed?
