Excellent work!
I have the same "problem" with complex environments. In render setting you have to try several settings in filter ... noise, firefly etc. But in any case, I agree with you, without filters it gives nice artistic results. For example I just posted "Reese in the library". Take a look at my gallery ... If I find good settings I'll let you know

Wonderful POV and redner. Yup, It is a bit too grainy but kind of works here.
An artist can use grain to his or her advantage. In this case it works really well. If you would like a more finished product all you need to do is "burn" the render a bit longer. Low light levels take a whole lot longer to give that pristine look to the finished image. How ever long it took to render this, I would at least double that time and see what happens. Adjust accordingly.
